Wheatley Park School- film festival
We went to Wheatley Park school as a part of the film festival. During this festival we were able to watch other people short films. This help u to see what they did differently so that we could reflect on our own pieces and think about what we would have done differently if we were to redo it. Additionally it allowed us to think about our current project to see if anyone else had done something in their films that we could try to incorporate. Our year 12 short story The Visitor was up for an aware which we won.
Film Clip Practice
these are some of the clips that we got when we were doing practice shots so we could see what shot work and the other shot that needed to be improved

Moral Panic

Moral Panic is a feeling of fear spread among a large number of people when an issues threatens the well-being of society". We watched Quadrophenia to see how moral panic is represent in the media. Cohen explains that the media takes one situation and overacts making society think that their way of life is being challenged. The media then takes it even further which encouraged the youths to rebel.

Giroux Theory
Giroux theory developed in 1997
The media represent the youth as an empty category. this explain that the adults don't understand what it is like to be a youth of this generation, so they "plonk" their own ideas into this space about what they believe the representation of youths is. The adult generation don't want to look bad so they blame the younger generation for not understanding. They use the younger generation as a scapegoat. we can see that the beliefs of all the adults molded together leads to an uprising of stereotypes causing moral panic. However we can see the media pushes their ideas on the adults and what they should now believe.

Gramsci Theory
Gramsci, hegemony
Gramsci developed the concept of hegemony.
Hegemony is what is considered the norm of society.
This then means that certain values are accepted as normal, such as low classes will been shown in a negative was as they are unable to have the hegemony way of life. this means that lower classes feel down on and they cant afford to be middle class. This theory shows hat the media is always within the hegemony of higher classes and are seen as acceptable.

Cohen Theory
Cohen discovered in 1972
- The study of mods and rockers riots.
- Reflect he anxieties at the time which caused moral panic to occur.
Moral panic reinforces hegemony, this is done by the media showing what is and isn't acceptable. So when youths try to express themselves in an unusual way that has not been seen before by adults they try to stop it by being negative towards it. This shows that youths not allowed to express themselves differently within society as it seen as unacceptable. The media places the blame of the youth as they see them as an easy target, this then causes moral panic to happen to try and remove the behavior that isn't considered to be in the norm.
Gerbner's Theory
Gerbner created the cultivation theory. This is the effect of television and the perception of crime. this theory shows the youth are always the victims for being involved in crime. The media represents youths as the ones that commit all crimes which creates a negative image of youths.
Philo's theory
Philo's theory is about hoodie cinema. Hoodie cinema reflex middle class anxiety of the working class. This shows anyone under middle class is inserted in to this "hoodie class" which suggests anyone below middle class is a thug. This means that people in a higher class see them as threatening and thugs. This theory suggests that media links the social classes with the strong stereotypes, such as middle class being ideal person with anyone lower than them being a hooligan.
